Howard Smith dies in a motorcycle accident. Bristol loses its best martial arts sensei.

Last Friday afternoon Howard T. Smith had a motorcycle accident on Volunteer Parkway, Bristol.  He collided against a Sedan that was trying to cross the road.  The car was driven by 19-year-old Ashlyn Campbell.

Howard was taken to the local hospital where later he died from his injuries.

Howard was the chief instructor of JKO Karate Do Organization, located downtown Bristol, on State Street. He was wise and patient. He was also a very talented dog trainer.

Above anything, he was a great human being, loved by family and friends. One of those friends you are really lucky to have.

He’ll be missed by many.

The visitation, funeral service, and interment for Howard T. Smith will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church (350 Euclid Avenue, Bristol, VA 24201) on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Visitation 10 – 11 am with funeral Mass at 11 am and interment in St. Anne Cemetery (adjacent to the church) immediately following the service. Because of Covid-19, everyone is asked to wear a mask in the church.
